If you give a mouse a cookie..

A couple of weeks ago, my sister Allison had her 21st birthday! Happy Birthday!

Prime example of a Mawn Asian face. I was clearly too excited to have cake to have good Asian eyes. Jonathan would rather give us bunny ears than Asian fingers.

Out of nowhere, I was ambushed! Sister and husband sat on me. Pinning me to the couch and tickling me until I escaped!

Because of the attack, I decided the presents were mine.

But the kindness of my soul prevailed and I let Allison have her presents.
Happy Birthday!

Come and play with us!

We got this sweet game at a dinosaur museum in St George. It is lots of fun to play. If you want to try it out, come and have game night with us! You won't regret it.

Landslide cake

We made this cake for my sister's birthday. When it came out of the oven it smelled delicious, but looked a little....funky. I was not too worried as I knew it would be covered in frosting. Not too worried, until I tried taking it out of the pan. Layer 1- ok, a little flaky. Layer 2- disaster, came out in chunks. I cried. I have no excuse for the tears except for stressful week? Anyway. Luckily I have Jonathan in my life, he laughed it off and began to put the chunks of layer 2 onto layer 1, adhering them with frosting. It still looked like a disaster to me. He was not concerned. "We'll cover it with frosting. No worries." He made more frosting (yeah, my husband makes frosting from scratch. He's legit.) and covered the layers in the frosting. Depending on which direction you looked at it from it either looked decent or dead. See below.

We deemed it the "landslide cake" and eventually I was able to laugh about it. When presented at the party, no one questioned the strange looking, falling-apart cake. Instead, they all ate it and raved about how delicious it was. I'm glad I have a good husband who can always find the positive. Now for the reflection part- this happens a lot now that I teach and constantly have to reflect on things- I think this cake is much like people. You see the disaster landslide in yourself, certain that no one will accept you or what you've done, positive that it will be laughed at. And everyone else looks at you and sees something wonderful and fantastic. They love you. So, goal for you: see the delicious cake instead of the landslide.

Blessings of marrying Robin and having an awesome older sister

Each class period my English  teacher will ask selected students about the reading. I have been a little behind in my reading, but till now have been lucky. Then yesterday she called one me and asked "What is the difference between Serif and Sans-Serif?
Ha!  I know this one!
I think i said that out loud.
When I was helping Erica make our wedding announcements, she explained what and why we needed  both serif and sans-serif fonts.
Thanks for saving the day Erica and Robin!

Power Tools

Instead of taking the bed thing apart, I just cut off the top part that was getting in the way with my circular saw. Then I turned it the other way, and put in all the drawers. Now there is a lot more room when we park the car and more organized in general.
Then I found some of the board with holes to hang up my tools in the basement. The tool bags from Grandma fit my saw and drill perfect. I used them both today!

It's the thing to do

Today is our 3 month wedding anniversary. We have been married a quarter of a year. Neat. This time next month we'll have been married a third of a year. We are rad.
